v-i is an installer for the Debian operating system for "bare
metal", physical hardware computers (not virtual machines). It's not
interactive, and possibly only works on PCs. The author uses it for
all their installation needs.
Motivation
Lars Wirzenius created v-i so that he could more
easily re-install Debian on his various computers. He feels that
installing an operating system on bare metal hardware should be a
fast, unexciting operation. If it happens often, it should be
automated as much as possible. Lars feels that as v-i is a single
command to run and takes a couple of minutes, his goals have been
achieved.
